Podcast Episode 110: Genetics vs. Epigenetics: What’s the Difference?

I know you’ve heard of genetics, but have you heard of epigenetics? They’re related, but they’re not the same thing. Genetics, to put it simply, are in your DNA and they’re hereditary. Epigenetics, though, can affect your gene expression. We have much more control over our epigenetics than we do our genetics. Surprised? Most people are! In this episode, we talk about the difference between genetics and epigenetics, the factors that affect genetic expression, and how to “turn off” genetic propensity.

The main change we can make to benefit our health is with nutrition. It’s something I say a lot on this podcast, but it’s true. Nutrition plays a big role in your overall health. Making sure that you’re consuming healthy proteins, healthy fats, minerals, and more, are key to effecting change in your genetic expression. If you’ve ever wondered just what the heck epigenetics are, this is the episode for you.

What’s in this episode:

  • How genetics and epigenetics are related, but are not the same
  • We have more control over epigenetics, and there are changes you can make to benefit your health
  • The keys to “turning off” genetic propensity
  • The factors that affect genetic expression, especially nutrition
