Getting to the Root Cause of Fatigue

Fatigue, the feeling of tiredness, or lack of energy, is a common symptom, not a specific disease, and can be a normal response to physical activity, emotional stress, or lack of sleep. However, when fatigue persists despite adequate rest, proper nutrition, and a low-stress environment, it indicates an underlying physical disharmony.

To feel more energy, it’s very important to reduce our dependence on stimulants. Coffee and energy drinks steal minerals from the body and blunt the cilia (fine hair-like strands that extend from walls of the intestine that absorb nutrients). They also wreak havoc on our endocrine system and the body’s pH.

Fatigue is caused by multiple factors and is the result of long-term physical degeneration. A lack of essential nutrients, minerals and enzymes leads to weakness in the body over time. Without the proper building blocks, organs lose function and we feel fatigued. Bear in mind, the human body undergoes a continuous process of cellular turnover, replacing approximately 0.33 × 10¹² cells per day, which equates to roughly 3.8 million new cells every second! This rapid renewal is essential for maintaining tissue function and requires the proper building materials. Consuming the healthiest foods will produce the healthiest tissues.

We can reverse fatigue and the first place to start is with our digestive system. It’s important to recognize that it’s not so much what we eat, but what we absorb. By fortifying our digestion and restoring it to healthy function we can better absorb the nutrition in our food.

In acupuncture, we talk about energy in a little different way. Acupuncturists know that there is a life force energy that resides in the body. It is called Chi. You can’t see it but you can feel it. This life force energy corresponds to felt experience of energy and fatigue. When your Chi is balanced and flowing harmoniously you feel vital and healthy.

Acupuncture is a valuable treatment for fatigue, particularly chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). The therapeutic effects of acupuncture for fatigue stem from its ability to balance the body’s energy (Chi), regulate the autonomic nervous system, and promote deep rest. In my experience, I have seen it work miracles.

Research shows that acupuncture can help improve fatigue symptoms. One study noted a 90% effective rate, with half of the patients feeling “cured” after the treatment period. That’s amazing!

Another study indicated that acupuncture treatment became increasingly effective with continued sessions, particularly when combined with other therapies like nutrition. And the great thing is, acupuncture achieves results without the common side effects that can accompany drug-based approaches.

Acupuncture also improves sleep quality, reduces anxiety, and boosts mood, all of which can contribute to having more energy and feeling good.

Fatigue doesn’t have to be permanent. By addressing its root causes and restoring balance to the body’s energy systems, you can reclaim your vitality. We’re here to help you achieve the vital energy you need.
