This is a fun area. To us, this is not just an arena of infertility, but an opportunity to allow for a new life to start off on a healthier foot. We are building a baby!
The development of a healthy baby isn’t to be taken lightly. In ancient cultures, it was planned out for about a year in advance. Certain “sacred foods” would be eaten by the mother-to-be to insure a healthy pregnancy and infant. Proper spacing of children was essential in the plan (usually 2-3 years between births). The sacred foods were also continued during the nursing period.
Today, not only is childbirth for the most part left to chance, but the incidence of infertility is skyrocketing at an alarming rate. There are many theories about why this is, many of which we are able to address.
For a woman to get pregnant, and carry healthfully, is a thrill. I remember one year when 3 of my patients I was treating for infertility all got pregnant in the same two week period of time. After their births, we had a party.
When a woman can’t sustain a pregnancy, or get pregnant in the first place, it will take work to not only get pregnant, but to insure a continued healthy pregnancy and delivery. I always worry when women force pregnancy through artificial means. If they weren’t able to get pregnant on their own, how can things possibly be truly healthy throughout?
Our goal is to identify why a woman or man can’t conceive. Many times we see reasons where conventional medicine can’t identify. That is because they are so focused on the mechanics, that they frequently miss other issues. Sometimes we can’t identify the causative factor definitively either, but using acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition and other modalities resolves the issue anyway. That is the difference in treating the whole body, rather than isolated mechanics. Treating the body, not the disorder is the mainstay of what we do. We can help.
