Colds, the flu, sore throats, runny noses, sinus problems, etc. are so common, that we think it's normal, albeit miserable! To a degree, that is true.
The body is intelligent. It knows when it needs to be cleaned out. When the lungs, tonsils, lymph, and mucus membranes become so gunked up that they can't function properly, it is time to clean house. We call it a cold. Whether upper respiratory ailments are viral-caused, bacterial-caused or cleaning house, the duration doesn't have to be as long as it generally is - nor does it have to be as uncomfortable.
Upper respiratory ailments last 7-10 days because we do all the wrong things: we feed the body hard to digest foods, pulling healing energy towards digestion instead of immune function, we feed the body sugar (ice cream, jell-o, 7-Up, popsicles, etc), which slows immune response, and we go about our days, pushing through instead of resting.
A cold shouldn't last more than 24-48 hours. If it does, it is either because you are doing the wrong things, or your immune system isn't up to par.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine, along with good dietary habits are effective in improving the immune response and helping to prevent and treat illnesses. If your immune system is sub-par, we will look for why it is, and then put in the corrective measures. That could mean acupuncture, sound nutritional advice, herbal medicines or other options.
Whatever the reason for these ailments, we can help.
