"It's hard to believe something so natural (without the side effects of drugs) could be so effective.  I was also amazed at how gentle and pain-free Dr. Carling's acupuncture treatments are.  I saw another acupuncturist while Dr. Carling was out of town, and was amazed at the difference.  My treatment with the other acupuncturist hurt!  It gave me a new appreciation for how gentle Dr. Carling's technique is."

Holly Acupuncture in JPG Hypodermic vs Acupuncture Needle

Unlike hypodermic needles (the type used for giving injections), acupuncture needles are thin, soft, hair-like with a round-circumferenced tip.  Whereas hypodermic needles have a cutting edge in order to inject a fluid, acupuncture needles don't have the pain of a "shot".  The fear is far greater than the discomfort (which is described as feeling like a mosquito bite).

Is Acupuncture Painful?

How Does It Work?

Ancient Chinese doctors discovered that the body has it's own energy system or life-force which is similar to what we know of electromagnetic energy.  This energy flows through the body along pathways similar to the nervous system called "Meridians" or "Channels".

If the flow of energy through these pathways is too weak, too forceful, blocked or otherwise disturbed, disease or discomfort results.

Along these meridians are special points where energy is accessed.  This is done by placing very fine, threadlike stainless steel, disposable needles into these acupoints which work as "conduits" or "jumper cables" to redirect the body's energy to restore balance.

  • Releasing special chemicals (i.e. Endorphins) to suppress pain, relax muscles and reduce stress.

  • Reducing inflammation and muscle spasms.

  • Activating and strengthening blood and energy circulation.

  • Stimulating and strengthening the immune system.

  • Balancing body temperature and moisture distribution.

  • Improve digestion and gastrointestinal function.

  • Activating and promoting the healing process.

  • Affecting sugar, cholesterol & triglyceride levels in the blood.

  • Enhancing the functions of the Endocrine System.

  • Influencing Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems.

  • "Opening" the lungs to improve breathing.

  • Breaking up "stagnations" from trauma and other causes.

  • Improving Cardiovascular health.
